Zia Robotics (#6974) is a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Community team based in central New Mexico. Formed in late 2017, the team is made up of members from several FTC teams from Socorro, Albuquerque, and the East Mountain area.
Consisting of both male and female high school students (sometimes middle school if given Parental Permission), members of Zia are given the chance to take on familiar or unknown ground, as they are challenged to tackle engineering tasks. Alongside such, the students learn to bond in a work like environment with their peers whom share robotic interest.
ZIA’S HISTORY:
2018 / POWER UP! – Our Rookie Year! We competed in the FIRST Power Up regional competition in El Paso, TX. Ranking 30th out of 37 teams, we joined the 6th alliance and made it to the quarterfinals. This is also the year we earned the Rookie Inspiration Award.
2019 / DEEP SPACE – 3 Competitions this year! First (haha ‘first’), attending the FIT District El Paso Event (that’s a mouthful)- we ranked 19th out of 27 teams, joining 8th Alliance and making it to the quarterfinals. During this event, we earned the Gracious Professionalism Award. Moving on, having a complete turnaround at the FIT District Amarillo Event, Zia ranked 3rd out of 30 teams! Leading 2nd Alliance, we had made it to quarterfinals. This Event earned us the Industrial Design Award and let us proceed to the FIT District Championship! Traveling to Austin, TX- The Championship resulted with the ranking of 59th out of 64 teams.
2020 & 2021 / INFINITE RECHARGE – Unfortunately due to Covid-19, the 2 events we were planning to attend had been cancelled. All we attended was our sweet homes, as quarantine swept things left and right.
2022 / RAPID REACT – Life slowly returning to what it once was, Zia (pronounced ZE-UH, not ZIGH- UH) was out to compete once again! Attending the FIT District Amarillo Event, we ranked 15th out of 28 teams and joined the 8th alliance- making it to quarterfinals once again! This Year, we won the Creativity Award.
2023 / CHARGED UP – Competing in the FIT District Fort Worth Event (another mouthful), left us with a ranking of 25 out of 34. Similar to the previous year, we had won the Creativity Award once again! As for the FIT District Amarillo Event, we left Texas with a ranking of 37, out of 39.
2024 / CRESCENDO – The current season! We can’t wait to show you what we got in store! Two events planned: FIT Waco and FIT Amarillo! That said, stay tuned Zia Nation >:]
